Playa Hermosa

I spent the last three days at Playa del Coco and Playa Hermosa, both beaches were beautiful. I give a little edge to Playa Hermosa. I like to sit in the restaurant and have the Fish Tacos. Yummy, a couple of Margaritas and life becomes more relaxing.

I sat in the shade facing the ocean listening to the waves roll in. Nothing is more meditative than the sound water. Whether it is a rolling beach waves or a running waterfall. It is very peaceful and time seems to stop. Everything is good. You do not get bothered when the Vender tries to sell you a whistle or some pottery. Every five minutes they stop by to work at changing your not buying today mind. It helps to have  two tiny dogs to keep the venders at a distance.

I made a new friend today, JC. He is the local vender for water craft fun. Want to go on a catamaran ,jet ski or go snorkeling , or maybe a sunset cruise he will set you up. He is friendly, outgoing kind of person who lets you know how to have fun. I liked him immediately.

The beach and the dogs are simpatico. My dogs LaLa and LuLu love to bark at the waves coming in and charge at the waves. They roll in the sand and chase each other around the sand. Maneuvering around the beach lovers and occasionally stopping and barking at the beach strollers . Those locals and vacationers having their morning strolls. My dogs are always looking for ways to get some attention.

Too soon it was time to head to the hotel. I take the dogs to the outside shower and wash the sand off their bodies. Sit on the concrete planter box until my dogs are dry. About an hour later we head to the car and drive ten kilometers to our hotel. It was a fun morning at the beach. Being a person of light skin, I tend to burn easily even with sun protection on. I go to the beach early before the heat gets to intense. Have you ever  gone to the beach just to see a sunrise or sunset? One of the great aspects of being retired, you make time your own. Owners of your own time.

Until next time , Puta Vida!

An Angry Old Man

I woke up at two o’clock this morning. Awaken by a nightmare I have been running away from. My brother from another mother was arrested for a crime he did not commit. It is happening in the USA more times than you can imagine. Thousands of good people are arrested daily for crimes they did not commit. Because of the Patriot Act, it has given prosecutors and judges Carte Blanche. Arrest can be made with no evidence. Only an accusation from a friend,so called friend, that perpetrates a lie and the system runs with it. The person is arrested and thrown in jail until he or she submits to the states wishes. On threats of continued imprisonment a person will plead out to a minor felony and will be released with time served.

Because of this gestapo type of atmosphere in the USA it is the primary reason for my leaving the country. I found it to be true in banking, insurance and in hospitalization. More of our rights are being taken away. Bit by bit the fabric of our foundation is being whittled away. You say I am paranoid. I say I lived this experience and wish for a better way of life because I am tired of the fight. I wish to live in a place where people join together in peace and harmony.

My last visit to Las Vegas, the first night there were three murders and a woman was run over in a crosswalk. It is an everyday occurrence in the USA. I live in Costa Rica for peace of mind. A chance to start fresh. I found myself less agitated, aggressive and at peace with myself. I love America, but I do not see how I can help make the country survive the crisis I see looming. Can you? I see more rioting, random shootings  and illegal arrest. I see a runaway government with no over site.

I am sorry for my rambling. I wish to stop this nightmare that wakes me in the early morning hours. The facts are few but the story is true. I left a lot out of my brothers situation. His struggle to get a good life back together. Social security was stopped when he was in jail because he was considered a criminal. Although not convicted. Social Security is making him pay back one thousand dollars he received  while in jail. He will go two months with no income. Isn’t rehabilitation great? Convicted for a crime he did not commit.

Enough of my rambling. Peace, maybe I can sleep better now. Need to ramble. Drop me a line.

Playa Del Coco

Today was the kind of day people wish they could have. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. Close to  ninety degrees and very few high clouds. I did the unusual and had a strawberry margarita at 11 A.M. I arrived early at the beach ( with my dogs) and went for a long stroll. The dogs played and bark at the surf enjoying being able to run around as much as they could. People stopping along the way to pet and play with the dogs. If they stroll too far I whistle and they come charging back. Other dogs I work at avoiding. My dogs come to my whistle  pretty well. When they ignore me I put a leash on.

We played in the water for about two hours. The walk way has outside showers for me to clean my feet and wash the sand off the dogs. The showers are very good. After our shower we walked for a while. I decided to sit on the concrete flower bed and watch people go by.  Mostly people wish to talk or pet the dogs. Females like the dogs and sometimes it can get interesting.

A couple from Arizona stopped and asked about the dogs. They showed me the four Chawahwas they left behind. Soon conversation turned about Costa Rica. Where to live And how to apply for residency. It gave me the opportunity to mention my new book: Poems From Costa Rica. It has a nice supplement on how to gain residency.

We talked for  a while. It is my favorite thing to do. Have a great conversation with new people and watch people enjoying the good life. I went to the restaurant on the beach, sat in a comfortable chair and soon had a beautiful woman to talk to. Life is tough here, ugh?

Soon the heat started to turn up and it was time to go. I want to get to the pool before the pavement is too hot for the dogs paws. I spent the afternoon in the hotel pool and put my dogs on a lounge chair under the trees. They were very comfortable and soon fell asleep after their morning escapades at the beach.

At three P.M. The dogs and I went out for dinner. Sat on a veranda watching the people of Playa Del Coco and enjoying a sword fish dinner and of course, a Pilsner. What else could I ask for? My girl friend Corina back from the USA would be nice. She will be home tomorrow and we will head to Nuevo Arenal.

It has been a wonderful time in Playa Del Coco. Don’t you wish you were here? Snorkeling, fishing or just suntanning on the beach and having a margarita.

What a life!😎

Poems From Costa Rica

Timothy M Nugent

ebook only $3.99

I feel the need for reflection. IN my Book: Poems From Costa Rica I wrote about the peace I find in Costa Rica. Especially in Nuevo Arenal, where life seems to go at a slower pace. Where people are genuine, caring and loving people. Families where mom or dad walk the kids to school. Play soccer together and eat together. Go to church and work. Family life takes front and center.Primery number one.

In the states , there are latch key kids. Parents to busy to pay attention. Last time I was in Las Vegas NV there was four deaths on my first evening home. Everyday there is death in Las Vegas. I shudder everytime I need to go back. Hence, I do not go. I do not remember the last time I heard about a mortality crime in Guanacaste Province.

How about you, have you heard of serious crime where you live? If so visit Costa Rica for a month or so and it will relax you and help you forget the evil in the world. If not read my new book Poems From Costa Rica. Timothy M Nugent. Ebook is only $3.99.

Hidden Away

I am hidden away from the fray
Deep in the rainforest faraway
No news to make me dismayed
Disgruntled or ashamed

Enjoying the fresh air
Enjoying the life style of devil may care
Absent is the need to
Relaxing a must do

I am among friendly faces
In simpler times and places
Few distraction to annoy
Nature to enjoy

I awake to singing birds
Low clouds and swaying ferns
Wild breezes that keep me cool
Gecko’s chirping their tune

Fall asleep to croaking frogs
Winds like sirens through the fog
Rains that pound the metal roof
Then silence, it’ a hoot!

Few trucks, cars or loud noises
No blasting radios to annoy
Welcome to Lake Arenal and the Living Forest
“Pura Vida” is the chorus”
The Good Life

Furiously windy this morning

I came to see the beauty of the lake

The Rain Forrest, the Volcano ash shake

The birds,flowers and the snakes

Hopefully a thousand pictures to take

Very windy this morning. The trees were bending their branches two to three feet . Swaying furiously back and forth. You can here branches crack from the force of the wind. A large bird was squawking in pain. Another animal must of attacked it when the branch broke.

It was five a.m. When the storm was raging. Too dark to see in the distance, but our dusk to dawn lights were on at our abode. Six a.m. The rain came down so hard it cascaded against the house like a gurgling River. It is calm now. Still windy but no rain

The River out front is at the highest level I have ever seen it. You can here it’s flow from the back bedroom. I expect the weather to do its usual clearing this afternoon although it is very dark and cloudy. It is the rainy season. A good day to write ore read a good book. My new book is out: Poems From Costa Rica. Go to storetimothymnugent or Amazon.comtimothymnugent if you prefer.

The Rains of Lake Arenal

I came to see the beauty of the lake

The Rain Forrest, the Volcano ash shake

The birds,flowers and the snakes

Hopefully a thousand pictures to take

Most rain in early afternoon

Forty mile an hour winds swoon

Trees bending to horizontal

Birds gliding nonsensical

Tin roofs clambering so loud

The force of the rain just pounds pounds

No voices can be heard

You lay quiet and watch the birds

The rain comes east to west

Never giving you time to rest

Too loud for you to sleep

You have no time clock to keep

The Lightning brightens the sky

Almost paralyzingly your eyes

Thunder claps the air

You take a deep breath Hoping nature has more to spare

You count the seconds from the lighting glare

To the thunderous claps of the fresh air

Six seconds: six miles away

The storm is leaving moving away

Instead of black the sky turns gray

Sensing showers are on the way

No more wind,no more rain Just another Lake Arenal rainy day

Rain today!

No rain yesterday . I should have done the laundry.I am sitting waiting on my car to be repaired. Alexander’s shop (Lubrication) in Nuevo Arenal does a great Job. For little money. Today I have to wait a few hours for them to get a part and do the work.

Bad day to have work done on the car. No sleep last night ,a little restless. This week end I will go to Playa Coco for a couple of days and pick up Corina on the way out of Playa Coco. It is a half hour from the Liberia Airport. Maybe get in some fishing. Have not made up my mind. The pleasures of being retired in Costa Rica.

My new book looks good. I picked a nice cover from my photo gallery. You can pick it up at as an ebook for only $3.99, “Poems From Costa Rica.” Planning on expatriating? Look at my supplement for information on Residency in Costa Rica.Hard cover should be out at the end of the week end.

I had lunch at La Delicias, I had a chicken fajita salad. Excellent! They have a Gringo Breakfast every Thursday morning at 8 A.M. Good breakfast and plenty of gringos to talk about life in Lake Arenal.

Today I will walk about town waiting for the car to be done. I should have taken the bus home but I did not want too. Lazy I guess. I will stop at the hardware store and plan my new property. In the meantime, may you have a great day😎

Holiday in Costa Rica

Guanacasta day , Annexation from Nicaragua. All government buildings are closed today. People are celebrating their holiday.Pura Vida.  I am sitting at Casa Paniagua waiting for my French Toast with pineapple, shaved coconut and mint. Yummy!

It is a beautiful day in Nuevo Arenal.

I took my dogs for a little walk. They are happily waiting for me in the car. Windows open and they are behaving quite well. Next week end I am heading to Playa del Coco.

Need to pick up Corina at the Liberia Airport. It is only a half hour from Playa del Coco. She is coming in at 10:45 P.M.. It is easier to drive a half hour instead of one in a half hours to Aguacate. I plan on a little deep sea fishing while I visit there.

I had a pleasant conversation today
The use of words the Costa Rican way
Positive affirmation developed through the years
Even a smile looking in a mirror

To start your day in a happy way
Get up, look in an mirror
A great way to start your day
Be happy; a small price to pay

Use words in a positive frame
Don’t is showing blame
Can’t means impossible want
May should be in high case fonts

Please and thank you are enormous gifts
Use words that give people a lift
Start your day in a HAPPY way
A smile last all day

Pura Vida

Another cool morning In Lake Arenal. Overcast and early morning rain. It is the rainy season. I woke up to the singing of birds. 4:30am I was wide awake. Fixed my self a healthy shake and began to catch up on words with friends. Corina and I have relocated here a year now. We love it here and bought a piece of property. Because of family illness Corina had to go to the USA and will be back shortly. Good health is so important  for Pura Vida (the good life). Here in Costa Rica,  the Lake Arenal area we are one step ahead of the USA. WE have quality air to breathe. A lot less cars and fewer people to cause congestion . I changed my eating habits because there are a lot less restaurants and no fast foods here. McDonalds is an hour and a half away. Rice and beans is the main staple here: rice and eggs, rice and chicken or beef.

I get tired of rice and beans so I have fruit. We have fresh fruit everyday. I lost fifty-five pounds here in our first year here. I hope to lose fifty more pounds, although it is coming off slowly. I am happy about my weight loss. A total of one hundred plus pounds in the last five  years.

We travel a little bit, San Jose, Liberia and the Pacific Coast. It is so beautiful here we do not have the urge to travel to other places. Now we will work at Pura Vida and start to build our home. The dogs are getting restless. Time to go for a walk.

Living in Costa Rica

Good morning my friends. Pure Vida! I started my day a little late today. Laid in bed playing words with friends and getting my butt whooped today.I love playing the games, making new friends . I like the challenge especially when I am behind. I find the game helps me improve my vocabulary. I hope it makes me a better writer.

As  I lay in bed I listen to the monkeys barking away. Something must be close by that is putting them on high alert. Making the ophan dogs bark like crazy as if to have a one upmanship on the monkeys or are they barking just to bark.

The smallest birds seem to cry out louder than any animal. I do not now the names of the little creature . I wonder if their love makings are as furious. It is the yellow breasted little sparrow like bird. Anyone know the name of this little bird?

It poured sheets of thin droplets of rain this morning as the gardener was cutting the grass next door. People in Costa Rica do not let the rain bother them. They walk and work with no umbrellas or rain gear. I can smell the fresh grass as he cuts with his weed whacker.

The river below is gurgling its music soothing my nerves. Drowning  the noise of the weed whacker. The red and white palm tree look beautiful this morning. Vegetation brite green with yellows, reds, blue and white and birds beginning to jump from tree to tree.

Poems From Costa Rica

This is one of the reasons I love Costa Rica; never ending fun with my dogs. They seem to keep me a mellow fellow instead of a raging maniac( which the USA was changing me into).

My book will be out anytime now, Poems From Costa Rica. I believe it is out in ebook version now for $3.99 at XLIBRISBOOKSTORE.COM.

Lala and Lulu and the Armadillo
The Armadillo was on the lawn
Minding his own business
Having a stretch and yawn
Enjoying the bright morning sun

When suddenly who should appear
Lala and Lulu following from the rear
Two rambunctious little dogs
Eager to tag along

Barking and pestering from inches away
Biting at the armadillo’s tail asking him to play
Slowly, cautiously he starts to move
Lala swats at his legs,he turns to show he disapproves

Then he darts to the bushes to hide
Vanishing before their eyes
Lala on one side, Lulu the other
Search the bush for their new found brother

Frantically they search to find their friend
Only to realize their play has come to an end
Mister Armadillo escaped through the fence
Using a very smart defense

He had scurried down to end through a hole
Too small for the dogs to follow
Bark,bark they would call out
Asking the armadillo to turn about

He would turn up his tail
Scurry away as the dogs continue to wail
Lala and Lulu would run up and down the fence
Until all their energy had been dispensed

Slowly they trot up the driveway
Still peeking at the fence along the way
Hoping to take one more peek
For the friend they wish to keep
