Star Wars

img_4388Let freedom ring! Sound  bells and let the world know we are adding a new service to the military. It will be a branch of the Air Force; The Space Rangers! Wait minute! Wasn’t that a TV SHOW? Did the Pentagon watch the series to get the idea that was thrown around when Ronald Reagan was the boss? We are trillions in debt and the government wants to add Space Cowboys to our already sizable debt. I can here Congress now: Do not worry General, we can cut food stamps, welfare, school lunches, social security, Obama Care, but we are not cutting out our candy machines.

Life is good knowing Stars Wars Inc is protecting the universe. We do need our satellites with the stars. Could you imagine a country blowing out an ATT, or Comcast Satellite; the riots would really begin. I will go back to my writing, the Government is tiring out my mind and body with their new schemes. Maybe congress should make a special election,(like Obama Care that was thrown down  our throats even though we did not want it), let the people decide. That would be a new concept, wouldn’t it?

Law suits everywhere! Spending money to stop the Ruskies at every turn. Impeach the President, jail this judge, oversite committee  for this and that so congress looks to protectAmerica’s interest as long as a lobbiest has the pay off. Ain’t life grand? Back in Costa Rica I relax and write and pray my country will be alright. Has common sense left the barn? We will see, Hey Harrison Ford, you may get a job offer.

Until next time, read a good book. Interested? Push the links below for my bookstores. Pura Vida!

“New Year

How do you plan?
When the world is in a hot frying pan?
Chaos in Iran, attacking Iraq,
Breaking all international pacts.

Terrorist in Saudi and Afghanistan,
Terrorist in Yemen waiting to join the band;
Fiat currency being devalued,
Stocks and bonds have no value.

Foreclosures throughout the nation,
Joblessness causing exasperation,
Homeless eating out of the trash,
The world heading to economic collapse.

How do you see the future?
How do you sift through all the manure?
The stench of politics making you angry
As you get economically buried.

Sit down and have a beer.
Hold your loved ones close and near.
Forget the government has a plan.
Depend on your mind and make a stand.

Search the world,
Find your pearl,
Where you can live inexpensively;
Carry your social security

“Spend ten dollars for dinner,
Have doctors who are givers,
Rent at three hundred dollars;
A government that is not a bother.

Try Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica.”

Perseverance

IMG_3906After a long day of correcting my writing with Grammarly; reediting paragraphs, correcting misspelled words and commas. I feel satisfied the manuscript is good, ready for the publisher to put it into a book format only to have to correct some more mistakes made by the editor who wishes to change the essence of the book and you cry foul and change it back to what makes you happy 😃

This takes kindness, patience and most of all  perseverance. Mny times you will be faced with these challenges. You will find out the easy part is the manuscript you spent months writing ✍️The challenge is arriving at the printing stage and selling your great accomplishment, which is in the eye of the beholder. The critics can whittle you down to size. I like being an angry humble writer with little patience for the publishing stage. I give them a complete book with chapters and page numbers; all they need is a table of contents and a new chapter on a new page, not a finishing page on the last chapter. You give them a bio and you are ready, RIGHT!

I like to use my own photos and it is a challenge because it is always not clear enough, the pixels are wrong. I do not understand? It does not compute, it doesn’t matter that you wrote the entire poetry book on a vacation and you want it to be inspirational, because of this great picture that looks like people are walkover the sands of heaven. Right, the pixels are blurry; of course they are blurry, the are walking to heaven, right.

I learned if you are patient and willing to persevere, anything is possible or is it my striving to have things done ✅ my way an obstacle to compliance? What do you think? I am in the process of printing my second novel and it seems to take forever. Persever I tell myself; we are just around the corner.  I am in the writing stage of my fourth novel, The Dreamer and I get stuck on chapters.. I reboot m mind and wait for the process to start again. Does this happen to you writers? Until next time, Pura Vida! Press the links below for my bookstores:

Litfire

Things have calmed down since the bomb attempts of 2018. Lucky and Carla have become an item. Carla has transferred to the Monterey office so she can live with Lucky in Santa Cruz. Lucky’s Mother Sunny has grown to love Carla and Lucky could not be happier. Jack is busy at the Restaurant and has found a new woman himself. Jasmine owns a surf shop and gives surfing lessons. Jack calls her Jazz, “Why do you call me Jazz?” “It is what you do to me Jazz; you are like a great piece of music that is ever-changing. You keep me feeling great,” Jack smiles. Jack calls Lucky, it is Saturday morning, and Jazz is at the restaurant, so Jack invites Lucky and Carla for breakfast. Breakfast will be at ten, out on the sand, at Lucky’s favorite spot. Jack wanted a change of pace, so he ordered a pitcher of Bloody Mary’s. Each glass has a peppered asparagus, an olive, and a sprig of thyme. “Jack, what is the occasion?” Lucky ask.

“Yeah Honey, what is all the hubbub about Bub?” Retorts Jazz laughingly. As Jack stands, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a box, and falls to one knee. “Jazz, will you marry me?” Silence, the ocean seems to sound loudly against the sand for a few seconds as Jazz looks at Lucky and Carla, smiles and dives into Jack’s arms. “What took you so long?” Jazz cries in Jack’s arms and tells him she loves him. Carla and Lucky walk over and hug the couple. “I am buying breakfast this morning!” Carla says.

Looking for excitement in reading

img_3198My first venture in writing a adventure type novel, “The Man With a Limp” due to be published at the end of October; is a mixture of adventure, romance, and friendship. Some times I like getting lost in a good adventure book. How about you? As a kid it was the Hardy Boys Mysteries  or Mark Twain. As I grew older I read less because I was so sports oriented and wish I would have read more often. I had neighbors who were school minded educators and had an opportunity to follow their examples as good students, but would rather play volleyball at the beach and drink Ripple Wine. Go figure! How life turns lemons into lemonade! How about you? Do you have the same kind of memories and regrets?

Nowadays I can not seem to find enough times to write. I go in spurts and write six to eight hours a day putting random Ideas on my I pad notebook pages. Do you like to write? Do you care what people think about your writing? I hope they enjoy my thoughts on the written page and find it is a pleasant escape from everyday drudgery. My days are always filled with excitement as I take a deep breath and thank God I still have an active imagination. I often think of a young friend named Tom; I would ride my bike to his house and we would play cowboys and dinosaurs. Maybe that was the beginning of my creative verve.

Adventure

The restaurant is full, and a young man with a back-pack sits in the middle of the restaurant. He is a college age boy, blonde hair, blue eyes, and dressed expensively. He puts his backpack on the floor and goes to use the restroom. He is gone several minutes, and I call Lucky. Max comes charging through the door as Lucky follows. Max stops in the middle of the room and sniffs. Suddenly he turns away and charges over a table and attacks a man; knocking him to the floor. The Man pulls out a detonator, and Max bites his hand so hard he twists off two fingers and the man was unable to push the button. Lucky rushes over to grab the detonator from the man. It is a wireless remote. On the man’s body under his baggy shirt is a vest of C4. It would have killed hundreds of people. The young man comes out of the restroom, and three agents grab his arms and frisk him. Another detonator, the officers handcuff him and find C4 in his backpack. The Agents take him to a unique building set up to interrogate any terrorist at the event. The word is instantly sent out to look for pairs of individuals working in tandem. Lucky tells his people it only takes one explosion to cause enough distraction to set off several more bombs. Lucky receives a call on the beach. Another bomb is in a trash can. It has a timer configured to go off in four minutes. Lucky grabs a weapon box hooked up to an off-road vehicle and rides to the trash can. A minute and a half left on the timer. He looks at the timer, lifts the trash can and puts it in the box and locks it quickly as the bomb explodes bouncing the box up in the air, three feet up and back to the ground. People scatter from the vicinity; Lucky talks to the command post and ask if they see anyone leaving the bomb that just exploded. The boss sends him a picture of a young man with a backpack wearing sunglasses, a Giants baseball hat, yellow Hawaiian t-shirt and black shorts with Monarch butterflies on the shorts. Lucky puts out a search for the Boy. ABC anchor Tom Malloy sees the kid in the middle of the crowd and notifies command. Things are happening quickly. Lucky informs the sniper on my restaurant to look for the person in the midst of the crowd and shoot him dead if he pulls out the detonator.

Do you know how to use the Bible?

imageHello out there in never-never land of riches and glory. Can anyone explain the Bible? Can you tell me how to use the greatest book ever written by man? I was raised strict Irish Catholic and I was never asked to read the Bible. Don’t you find that extraordinary? I have fallen away from my church because of my experiences with it’s principles. Preach to me and do as I say but pedophilia is ok. A priest can hide in the church and not be punished, but if I do it I go to jail and I  am ostracized from the community. My Grandfather past away and before he died he ask his best friend to give him his last rights and the priest said no because he knew what he did as a young man. Is a priest God? Can a priest condemn a man when he searches for forgiveness? How do you expect a person to believe in the Bible when the church lives by a different creed? Did not God forgive the murderer on the cross?

I began to read the Bible in search for a meaning of my existence. I wish to be a better person and in search for making a difference in life I am searching for guidance. I do not believe in organized, money grubbing church organization. How can a preacher live in a ten million dollar home, drive a Mercedes Benz and preach to the people about God. Give me money and I will save your soul. In my neighborhood the joke was a Minister on every corner. No taxes to worry about, I need a new car , the parishioners will supply me one. Is that in the Bible? I had a member of a certain religion tell me her God is the one true God. Tell that to a Muslum and watch the controversy ensue. Is that in the Bible or is it true if you are not a Baptist, you will be forced to the fires of hell for eternity.

I look at the picture of the Angels and I hope they sit on my shoulders to guide me to goodness and kindness. How do you use a Bible? I have two; a Catholic Bible and St James version. Which is the right version? Any Idea? I will read both in the quest for betterment. I worked too hard all my life to give my money to the church. Blasphemy! Any takers, someone wish to show me how to use the Bible? Pura Vida!

The Holy Bible

Tell Me Lord

Tell me lord, why is the world so cruel?
Yet your sky is so blue
Tell me why there is hate
That makes the soul so black

Why did we go to the moon?
But we let our people starve and live in the streets
Tell me Lord why I should talk to you
Because I do not know what to do

Tell me Lord , why can’t we live in peace?
We war in the name of God
Does not that seem odd?
Tell me Lord, who is my brother?

Tell me Lord, If the heart is the gateway to the soul
Why is our souls so dark?
Tell me Lord, why did Dad loose his house?
Payments were heavy for his sick spouse

Tell me Lord why I should pray for help?
When everyone looks out for themselves
Tell me Lord that it is true
That you will help us through

Is Armageddon our salvation or our fate ?
Is it too late?

Would you like to be on theBeaches of Costa Rica for the New Year?

Costa Rica is a beautiful place. You can fly in to Liberia Airport and be thirty minutes from the beach. Thanks to Southwest Airlines you can fly for under $400. If you live in Las Vegas ,Nv, Houston,Texas, Los Angeles California, it is a hop and a skip, you are there. Costa Rica is heading into the summer months and prices go up. I flew from Liberia Airport to McCarrin Airport in Las Vegas for under four hundred dollars round trip. Do some investigating and find a cheap flight. I found if I looked into the hotels on or near the beach ; I could always find a deal. When I work with the deal sites.           ( Expedia etc.) I seem to pay more than I needed to. Plus each site is given only a selection of rooms to choose from.

I took the list below from Best Beaches in Coasta Rica site:

Playa Avellanas, Tamarindo.                                                                                                          Cano Island, Corcovado Bay.
Playa Guiones, Nosara.
Playa Virador, Papagayo.
Playa Cocles, Puerto Viejo.
Manuel Antonio National Park.
Playa Grande, Tamarindo.

I wish I could say I have visited these beaches, but I have not. I have heard from  Costa Rican’s from the Guanacaste region that Play Guinoes, Nasara is their favorite beach to go to.  I have Stayed at two beaches; Playa Hermosa and Playa Coco. I stayed at Lara’s House, a nice B&B a block from the Ocean. It is inexpensive and is a locked driveway to protect you and your car. Nosara is about two and a half hours from the Liberia Airport.

Down further south is Santa Theresa Beach. The home for world surfing. It will take you five hours or more to get there from Liberia Airport. A nice trip would be taking two weeks and driving to different beaches on the Pacific Coast. You can take the highways all the way to Santa Theresa Beach. Plan Ahead and enjoy the beaches. From San Jose it will take six hours to get to Santa Theresa.  I went to the Hotel Pelícano when I first came to Costa Rica and it took a couple of hours to get there and the beach was wonderful. It is located in Esterillos Este in Punteranas Province. I enjoyed the food and the swimming pool. It was slow season and they upgraded us to a suite and we loved it.

I have heard conflicting accounts of traveling the Caribbean side of  Costa Rica. I heard it is hot, humid and beautiful. Like anywhere you need to be careful. I heard parts of Limón can be dangerous, but rumors are rumors. I’d you go on the American Embassy site they will tell you Costa Rica is a dangerous place. I do not find that to be the case. I do not travel at night anywhere and I am cautious not to flash cash. I like to use my credit card.

Travelandleisure.com has a great site for things to do in Costa Rica. Like any  vacation, plan well. Be smart and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica. I have lived in Costa Rica for sixteen months and love it here.

PURA VIDA!

Have you been touched by suicide?

*Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one’s own death. Risk factors include mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, alcoholism, or substance misuse. Others are impulsive acts due to stress such as from financial difficulties, troubles with relationships, or from bullying. Those who have previously attempted suicide are at higher risk for future attempts.Suicide prevention efforts include limiting access to method of suicide, such as firearms and poisons, treating mental disorders and substance misuse, proper media reporting of suicide, and improving economic conditions. Although crisis hotlines are common, there is little evidence for their effectiveness.

I met John in high school. I was a jock and he did not play sports. A met him at a local bowling alley, he was drinking beer and smoking. John was seventeen years old and hand no friends. I do not know why we clicked but we became friends. So much so he went and tried out for the football team. He was tall but thin and became a center on the team. It took a lot for him to commit to the sport but he hung in and played. He never played a sport before. A couple of months in the season I would move to California. John was a senior in high school, met a girl and fell in love. A few months later they broke up. He became depressed. He was lonely with nobody to talk to. He walked down to the cemetary leaned against a tombstone and drank some whiskey. He took a knife and stabbed himself in the heart. Where was his support system? Someone to talk to.

My Brother in law David was twenty-one and in the Airforce. He was having a successful career; he was promoted to Staff Sargent in less than two years. This is quite an accomplishment in the seventies. He would work and go to school to better himself. He came home on leave and spent some time with all his family members. Individual time doing what his brothers or sisters wanted to do. He spent a week camping with his sister and  her spouse. He had five brothers and sisters. After his leave was finished, Dave drove his little yellow Datsun ( now Nissan) back to the base in San Diego. Three weeks later twoAirman were at Mom’s front door. Dave drove to the mountains of San Diego, parked, put a three fifty-seven magnum under his chin and killed himself. What caused him to take such a drastic measure. It was found that he broke up with his girlfriend. He was Airman of the month three months straight. Everything looked rosy and nobody suspected he was depress or angry. He hated guns, but used a gun to kill himself. Why? Nobody will ever know. Guilt was left by every member of our family. Why did we not see his pain?

On Christmas Eve my Father tried to commit suicide. He took three hundred prescription pills and then came out and told my  Mom. She called an ambulance and rushed him to the hospital. I remember Dad laying in the hospital bed with a thick practice hose stuck in his mouth with black stuff all over his mouth. The nurses pumped out his stomach and saved his life. The hospital took him to the psychiatric ward and  kept him on a seventy-two hour watch. We brought his empty prescription bottles and the Doctors found the cause of his suicide: Dad was seeing three different Doctors for different ailments and his body reacted to the pills. It caused him to dive into a deep depression, causing him to commit suicide. Why did not the Doctors ask him about the medications he was taken or other Doctors he was seeing? We did not see this incident developing.

It is important that adult children check in on elderly parents. My mom was eighty-eight years old and my oldest sister thought she was acting a little strangely. She decided to hunt for her prescriptions. She found fifty or so bottles of prescriptions and started calling Doctors. The last prescription the Doctor told my sister to bring her to his office now. My sister packed up the pills and took her to the hospital. Mom was self diagnosing herself and taking medicine she was not supposed to be taken. The Doctor confiscated all the pills and gave Mom the medicine she needed, giving a list to my sister who gave the list to her brothers and sisters so we could monitor her drugs. Lessons learned and prevention of premature death.

There was a time when my Wife’s family and mine had serious health problems but her family would suffer another tragedy. Her younger brother John was in a terrible off road bike accident injuring his head. He would be in the hospital a long time. He was never the same. Once a very active young man his life would slow down. He had a thriving finishing carpenter business. It was a carpenter to the stars. Famous musicians and actors would ask him to work on their homes. His wife would take over the business and help John out. A couple of years go by and John is having difficulty. None of the drugs he was taking was helping. One week John drove over a bridge overpass for the free way  five times. The next week he did it again, the following week he would stop on the road, get out of his car and jump. A friend of his was following him but was to late to stop him. His friend pulled over and could hear him yelling for help. John would die at that bridge. A brilliant, kind mind gone forever . I do not know all the intricacies of John’s story, sometimes drugs and the mind leave no choice for the patient. No matter what you do you can not stop the process of suicide.

Wikipedia  has a great page on suicide and prevention. Cities have suicide prevention phone numbers. It is important people who lost someone to suicide need to get help. Learning to cope with a death of a loved one is difficult especially if the loved one causes his own demise. An astonishing fact: there are twenty million attempts at suicide a year in the world. People over seventy are highly susceptible. Children who are bullied sometimes do not see a way out of their predictament. People must be aware of their families and friends and keep a flow of conversation going. Search if you feel a change in a love one. Do not take life for granted. Pura Vida!

Suicide

Forgive me
I did not see your pain
Or feel your emotional restraint
Or in your quietness you were engaged
In desperation’s silent rage

In fragile darkness you set your plans in motion
It was time to end the emotional commotion
You found your bridge of relief
You leaped and ended your grief

Forgive me for not being there
To help you in your time of greatest despair
You are in a better place
No more desperation must you face

I hope you found peace

Occupations in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is the place I chose to retire to. It is not for everyone. Before making any life changes, visit the place you wish to live and rent there for awhile. This was my fifth visit to Costa Rica. I knew the  first day I arrived this is where I wanted to be. Never the less I showed restraint. I visited several more times before I decided to stay and never look back.

Gringos can not find work here unless they can do a job a Tico can not do. It is how Ticos keep working without fear of foreigners taking away their jobs. You can start your own company and work it. Online business is popular in Costa Rica. Technology fields are popular as long as you own the business. Corina and I are planning to open a small farm and work it on our own. Small enough to feed our selves and raise chickens  and maybe a pig. Who would have known I would venture into such a business at my age. A lot of farmers out here.

My present business is selling my poetry books on line. It is a tough way to make money. I write several blogs and a newsletter. Any way I can to be seen by the public. All writers hope people like their work and hope people like what they write. This blog: tmnugent.com is more of a conversational piece. My hope is you will comment and get a discussion going on anything you like or about the blog I wrote. I hope you visit my website: understanding-online.com. A website dedicated to my books.

Superglideman2@wordpress .com is another blog. I am slowly changing the format of that blog. It was my first blog and I use it to promote my poetry. I put excerpts from my newest book on the blog. My newest book: Poems From Costa Rica is published. You can check it out at Xlibris.com author Timothy M Nugent or at Amazon.com.

May you have a great life!
